Ontario is a funny place when you really think about it. Drive an hour in almost any direction and suddenly people are living completely different lifestyles. Different homes. Different commutes. Different coffee shops. Different traffic stress levels. And, as it turns out… very different cleaning habits.
Now, as a cleaning company, we notice these things. Probably more than normal people should. So today we thought we’d have a little fun comparing how homeowners in Guelph, Burlington, and Oakville tend to keep their homes clean, and the unique chaos each city brings with it. Because trust us, every city has its own personality.
And yes, that personality absolutely follows people into their kitchens.
Guelph: “Please Ignore the Mud by the Door”
Guelph homes tend to have a very specific energy: dogs, kids, boots, more boots. And enough mud to qualify as a landscaping project.
Now before anyone from Guelph gets offended, hear us out: we love Guelph. It’s one of the most down-to-earth, family-oriented cities in Ontario. People are friendly. Neighborhoods are beautiful. There’s greenery everywhere. And unlike parts of the GTA, you can still make a left turn without needing a written survival plan. Not to mention it’s our home <3 But with all that nature comes… dirt. A lot of dirt.
Guelph homeowners are practical people. Their homes are lived in. They’re not usually trying to create some ultra-minimalist showroom that looks like nobody has ever sat on the couch before. These are homes with actual life happening inside them. The challenge? Mud season.
In Guelph, winter doesn’t end. It simply transforms into six weeks of wet boots, dog paw prints, and mysterious floor stains that appear out of nowhere. And somehow, no matter how often floors are cleaned, there’s always one child who walks in like they just finished hiking through Algonquin Park.
Burlington: “Lakefront Living… and Infinite Dust”
Burlington has a completely different vibe.
People here are busy.
Really busy.
You’ve got professionals commuting into Toronto, families juggling activities, retirees enjoying lakefront living, and approximately 47 million people trying to merge onto the QEW at the same time.
Burlington homes also have a unique combination of beautiful interiors, busy schedules, and an endless battle against dust. Seriously, the dust here is impressive. You clean a shelf, walk away for twenty minutes, come back, and somehow the dust has returned with reinforcements.
A lot of Burlington homeowners also live in condos and townhomes near the lake, which creates its own cleaning quirks. Condos somehow collect dust at a supernatural rate. Nobody fully understands why. Scientists may eventually investigate this.
And because so many people here have packed schedules, recurring cleaning services are incredibly popular. People don’t necessarily hate cleaning… they just don’t want to spend the one free evening they have that week scrubbing bathrooms while silently questioning all their life choices.
Hey, we get it.
In fact, many Burlington families we know use recurring cleanings simply to preserve what little sanity remains after surviving GTA traffic all week. That’s also why companies like Oakville Maids of Burlington have become popular with homeowners looking to keep things under control without sacrificing every weekend to vacuuming and wiping fingerprints off stainless steel appliances for the 14th time.
Oakville: “This Throw Pillow Is Decorative and Nobody May Touch It”
Oakville homes are often beautiful.
Like… really beautiful.
You walk into some Oakville homes and immediately become aware that you are not worthy of touching anything. There are white couches. There are designer kitchens. There are candles that probably cost more than our first office chair. And yet somehow, even these gorgeous homes still battle the same enemies as everyone else like dust, pet hair, kids, and just life. Because no matter how stunning the home is, eventually somebody spills something.
Usually on the rug.
Oakville homeowners also tend to be incredibly detail-oriented when it comes to cleaning. Things matter such as streak-free glass, perfectly folded towels, baseboards, and smudges on stainless steel
Especially stainless steel.
There seems to be an unwritten law in Oakville that every appliance must remain fingerprint-free at all times despite multiple humans actively living in the home. It’s ambitious, quite frankly. Very ambitious.
But one thing we’ve noticed in Oakville is that people deeply value consistency. Families often prefer having the same cleaner for years because trust matters when someone is working inside your home every couple of weeks.
And that makes complete sense.
So… Which Ontario City Cleans Best?
Truthfully? All of them. Just differently.
Guelph homes are warm, lived-in, family homes constantly battling mud and nature. Burlington homes are balancing busy modern life, commuting, condos, and never-ending dust. Oakville homes are polished, detail-oriented, and fighting a daily war against fingerprints on expensive appliances. But at the end of the day, homeowners everywhere want the same thing:
A clean home that feels peaceful to walk into.
And preferably one where nobody has to spend their entire Saturday cleaning the shower. Because life’s too short for that. Especially during Ontario winter.
